Alyssa Allgood Quartet

$20Acclaimed jazz singer and songwriter Alyssa Allgood debuts at Berlin with an uplifting program of original music and jazz standards performed with her dynamic band of Julius Tucker (piano), Ethan Philion (bass) and Jon Deitemyer (drums).
Named a “Rising Star Female Vocalist” in the 2024 DownBeat Magazine Critics Poll and voted “Best Individual Jazz Musician” in the 2024 Chicago Reader Poll, Alyssa Allgood has captured attention for her dynamic vocal command, sophisticated songwriting, and captivating performances. Showcasing modern sensibilities, Allgood is a fearless vocalist known for her confident musical interaction, fierce improvisation, and vulnerable expression. DownBeat has praised her “boldness, swagger, and surefooted musicianship” while the New York City Jazz Record has recognized her “force, clarity and jazz integrity.” A charismatic and engaging performer, Allgood regularly headlines the acclaimed Jazz Showcase, Green Mill and Winter’s Jazz Club in her Chicago homebase. She tours frequently, having appeared at such esteemed venues as Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club, Birdland and Mezzrow in New York; Blues Alley in Washington, DC; Blue Llama in Ann Arbor, MI; Jazz, TX in San Antonio, TX; Rudy’s Jazz Room in Nashville, TN; and The Century Room in Tucson, AZ.
Jon Deitemyer has established himself as a unique and versatile voice in modern jazz drumming. After graduating from the esteemed University of North Texas—where he studied with Ed Soph and Lynn Seaton—Deitemyer settled in Chicago and quickly became a fixture in the city’s expansive creative music community. Jon has performed and/or recorded with artists including Matt Ulery, Zach Brock, Phil Markowitz, Ben Paterson (MaxJazz), Grazyna Auguscik (EMI), Renee Fleming, and Lynne Arriale. Deitemyer is also an active educator, with positions at Northwestern University and Loyola University.
Ethan Philion is an award-winning bassist, composer, and bandleader based in Chicago. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and DePaul University, Philion has been praised by the Washington Post for his “well honed chops and astounding musicality. His debut album, Meditations on Mingus, was commended as “a labor of conspicuous love and respect for a musical titan” by DownBeat magazine. He has performed with an extensive list of jazz artists including Rufus Reid, Greg Ward, Dana Hall, Mark Feldman, Russ Johnson, Howard Levy, Ryan Cohan, Tito Carillo, Gary Bartz, Alfonso Ponticelli, Ernest Dawkins, Geof Bradfield, Dee Alexander, Mark Gross, Alyssa Allgood, Thaddeus Tooks, Victor Garcia, Mike Allemana, Mai Sugimoto, and Paul Marinaro.
Julius Tucker is a pianist, composer, bandleader, and producer. His musical voice encompasses a multitude of genres, from jazz to house music. He is especially known for his complex sensitivities and agile fluidity on the piano and keyboard. Tucker has had the opportunity to play at noted venues around the Chicagoland area, including The Green Mill, Room 43, Andy’s Jazz Club, Winter’s Jazz Club, Constellation, the Jazz Showcase and The Promontory. He recently performed at Berlin with the excellent Lenard Simpson Quartet and is excited to be back!
